Joseph “Joey” Patrick Rathbun, 30, of Monona passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023. A Celebration of Life was held Friday, September 29 at the Waukon Banquet Center in Waukon. Memorials may be given in Joey’s honor to his family.
Joseph was born March 4, 1993, the son of Matthew and Christine (Jones) Rathbun. He graduated from Waukon High School in 2011.
October 20, 2018, Joey was united in marriage to Katie Rogers. To this union a beautiful daughter was born, Raegan. Joey was employed as a Welder at Gencor Industries, Inc. in Marquette. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking, and riding and repairing all his “toys”.
Joey was very talented in his art of wood working, drawing and carving. He could be found spending time in “Joey’s Exotic Garden” or making funny videos that he would share on social media. He looked forward every morning to stopping at the Casey’s General Store for his morning fix.
But nothing brought Joey more joy than spending time with Katie, Raegan, his family and friends. He was a light in everyone’s life and we want everyone to remember him that way.
Surviving Joey are his wife and daughter, Katie and Raegan Rathbun of Monona; his parents, Matthew and Christine Rathbun of Waukon; his siblings, Brittny (Ben) Droessler of Dubuque, Olivia (Austin Ollendieck) Rathbun of Waukon and Tyler Rathbun of Waukon; his great-grandmother, Betty White; his mother-in-law, Janet Rogers of Monona; his sister-in-law, Shannon (Daniel) Duffy; his grandparents, Sue Perkins, Sue Ellen (Dave Miller) White and Jim and Sue Rathbun; his grandfather-in-law, Milt Morrison; his nieces and nephews, Max and Myles Droessler, Lilli (Caleb) Knipp, Austin Duffy, Aliyah Cashen-Duffy, Nicholas Duffy, Samantha Duffy, Alex Duffy and AJ Cashen.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jim Jones; his father-in-law, Dennis Rogers; his grandparents-in-law, Vera Morrison and Norman and Irma Rogers; his uncle, Mike Jones; and his special friends, Ty Riehm and Ben Kerndt.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona assisted the family with the arrangements.
