Home ›Three ACSD choir students selected to sing at 2023 Opus Honor Choir Festival in Ames
Waukon High School freshman Eireann Goettel, daughter of Jeff and Elaine Goettel, and Waukon Middle School sixth graders Lena Rausch, daughter of Ben and Kris Rausch, and Connor Buhl, son of Jon and Cathy Buhl, were recently selected for participation in the 37th annual Opus Honor Choir Festival. The Opus Honor Choir is the most prestigious honor choir for underclassmen in the state of Iowa.
Over 2,400 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition. The three selected students from the Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) are under the direction of Sarah J. Bieber at Waukon High School and Waukon Middle School.
Guest conductors of this year’s Opus Honor Choirs include Tami Meiners of Carroll Community School District, who will be conducting the 5th & 6th Grade Honor Choir; Thad Wilkins of Mt. Vernon Community Schools, who will be conducting the 7th & 8th Grade Bass Clef Honor Choir; Abby Sheppard of Sioux City Community Schools, who will be conducting the 7th & 8th Grade Treble Clef Honor Choir; and Matt Walker of Iowa City Community School District, who will be conducting the 9th Grade Mixed Honor Choir. The 2023 Opus Honor Choirs will perform at 4 p.m. Thursday, November 16 in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames.
