Waterville native and children’s author Mary (Evanson) Blackwehl to visit Waukon November 21

Mary (Evanson) Bleckwehl, a Waterville area native who grew up on her family farm on Elon Road in Allamakee County and is now a children’s author living in Minnesota, will be in Waukon Tuesday, November 21 for two author events.

She will be at Robey Memorial Library Storytime from 10:30-11 a.m. and will be introducing and reading from her newest picture book, Arrrgh! Me HATE To Wait!, a story of an impatient piggy pirate who learns that good things come to those who wait.

That afternoon, the author will be at St. Patrick Catholic School. She will spend the afternoon meeting with all grade levels to share her author journey, newest books and more.

Bleckwehl, a native of Waterville, is an educator and children’s author who enjoys sharing her author journey with audiences young and old. Her 11 published books have earned numerous awards and include four picture books, five nonfiction books, and two novels for middle school students. In 2023 her second novel, Fetching Dreams, and her fourth picture book, Arrrgh! Me HATE To Wait! were launched. Two more nonfiction books are due out in fall of 2024 and a new picture book will be released in 2025.

Bleckwehl graduated from Waukon High School, received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, and her Master of Science degree from Lesley University in Boston, MA. The past 12 years, she has presented to nearly 100,000 students in schools and young writer conferences throughout the midwest, including those in Waukon, New Albin, Postville and other area schools.
