Iowa high school and college students, as well as their parents or guardians, have a chance at one of 45 scholarship awards deposited into a College Savings Iowa account. Registration for the Iowa Student Loan (ISL) Education Lending Scholarship is open now through March 29. Registration is available online at www.IowaStudentLoan.org/Savings and scholarship recipients will be determined by a random drawing in April.
“After a very successful fall registration period, we are happy to offer a second chance for Iowa families to receive funds for their education,” said Steve McCullough, president and CEO, Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation (ISLLC), which sponsors the scholarship and provides educational funding under the name ISL Education Lending. “And the valuable information all registrants receive as part of the program can help make their existing college funding go further.”
The ISL Education Lending Scholarship is a new program that launched in September 2023. From more than 12,000 eligible registrations, 45 winners were chosen from a mix of high school and college students, parents and guardians. Those winners were chosen in December 2023 and are in the process of receiving their $1,000 deposits.
The ISL Education Lending Scholarship not only provides registrants with a chance at much-needed funds for college, it also provides valuable information about ways to reduce college loan debt through the program. Financial literacy tips are included as part of the registration process, and additional information is available after participants register.
Forty-five $1,000 awards will be provided as deposits to College Savings Iowa accounts. The scholarship program is open to Iowa residents who are either Iowa high school students, undergraduate college students, or parents, guardians or others who hold a College Savings Iowa account benefiting a current Iowa high school or undergraduate college student.
A student and either a parent or guardian both registering gives the student two chances to win. Online registration is quick and easy. After registering, participants may continue to read three quick college planning and financing tips and answer a multiple choice question on each. For the remainder of the scholarship period, registrants receive emailed information on college planning and financing.
Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation is a nonprofit organization that provides the online resources and scholarship programs as part of its mission. “It’s important to us that we provide value to the families in Iowa as they explore education beyond high school,” said Christine Hensley, board chair of Iowa Student Loan Liquidity Corporation. “Our scholarship and award programs, our free online resources for students and parents, and lower-cost private education loans are ways that we can help families who invest a significant amount in higher education.”
The financial information presented in the scholarship is always available to the public at www.IowaStudentLoan.org. In addition, families can visit the website for additional resources and to sign up for other services, like the parent email service Student Planning Pointers for Parents.
