Thomas Schulte

Thomas (Tom) James Schulte, age 83, entered eternal life April 1, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, April 6 at Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon, WI. A private burial will be held later. Memorials for Tom can be made to  https://www.givetossmhealth.org.

Tom was born March 1, 1941, to Vincent and Rose Schulte in Spring Grove, MN, the first of seven children. Tom grew up on the family farm in Dorchester, attended rural schools, and graduated from Waukon High School in 1959. After graduation, Tom enlisted in the Army Reserve. Soon after that, he began his career in the farm cooperative industry at Waukon Equity Cooperative.

In 1965 he was united in marriage to Carole Olson at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Waukon. Together they raised five children in Iowa and Wisconsin. His career spanned 40 years, and he retired from United Cooperative in 2003.

Tom was very involved with the Juneau Lions Club for 40 years and received the esteemed Melvin Jones Fellow Award as well as many other achievements. A civic-minded man, Tom was involved in many community organizations in Juneau. He was a faithful steward and servant of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He spent several years after retirement volunteering as a driver for the Aging and Disability Resource Center. Tom loved gardening, playing cards, watching baseball, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, shopping at Menards, and spending time with his family and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carole; his children, Michelle Meier of Middleton, WI; Kristine (Bruce) Bobb of Verona, WI, Scott (Andrea) Schulte of Columbus, WI, Nicole (Steve) Vessey of Beaver Dam, WI, and Luke Schulte of Madison, WI. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Molly Meier, Teddy Vessey, Caroline and Claudia Bobb, and Ryan, Robin, Rachel, Cecilia and Shauna Schulte. Tom is further survived by his brothers, Bob (Diane) Schulte, Dan (Mary) Schulte, Matt Schulte, and Al (Paula) Schulte; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Vince and Rose; his sisters, Sharon and LaVonne; and his beloved grandson, Braden.

The Schulte family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the SSM doctors and the nursing staff at Columbus Community Hospital, as well as SSM Hospice Care Services for their support of Tom during his last month of life.
