Kee girls track team finally able to get its outdoor season underway, places sixth at Decorah Invitational for lone meet of this past week

After having its first two outdoor meets of the season canceled by weather and not having competed on the track since the Upper Iowa Conference Indoor Meet more than two weeks earlier, the Kee girls track team finally got its first taste of outdoor competition this season when the Lady Hawks competed at the Decorah Invitational Friday, April 5. The meet had originally been scheduled for Thursday, April 4 but the latest blast of early spring winter weather postponed the meet, with the Hawks tallying four top-three event finishes against a mixed field of local school sizes, tallying 42 team points to finish in sixth place among the eight-team field.

“It was nice to get our first outdoor meet of the season in!” Kee girls track and field coach Chad Winters said. “Weather has put a hamper on our level of training over the last couple of weeks. Being able to take advantage of the nice night after the meet was rescheduled from Thursday night allowed us to get in a good night of competing against some quality teams.”

The Tuesday, April 2 Postville Invitational the Kee girls were supposed to compete in earlier in the week was canceled due to weather. They were next scheduled to compete in the Waukon Early Bird Invitational Tuesday, April 9 and then at MFL/MarMac Thursday, April 11. The Lady Hawks will then take part in the Crestwood Invitational Tuesday, April 16 before hosting their own home invitational Thursday, April 18, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with field events.
