Waukon boys track team qualifies nine events for State Track and Field Meet to pace sixth-place team finish at Class 2A State Qualifying Meet

Double qualifier returns in 1600 meter run ... Waukon boys track senior Skyler Dugan keeps pace with a pack in the 1600 meter run at the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Denver Thursday, May 9. Dugan earned a return trip to the Class 2A State Meet in that distance event with his fifth-place finish in a time of 4:37.12 that was fast enough to earn an at-large qualification for the season grand finale, and he also led off the Tribe’s 4x800 relay for a win in 8:11.90 to help that relay earn an automatic berth among Class 2A’s State Meet elite. Indians qualify for State in all individual running events, as well as 4x800 and 4x400

Competing for the opportunity to extend its season to every high school track and field team’s ultimate destination, the Waukon boys track team battled 11 other schools on that same quest at its Class 2A State Qualifying Meet in Denver Thursday, May 9. The track Tribe’s efforts resulted in a total of nine events earning qualification for this year’s State Track Meet in Des Moines, including six events that earned automatic qualification with top-two placewinnings, with five of those being event wins to headline the Indians’ 64 team points and a sixth-place team finish.

ON TO STATE
