Residents of Waukon will have the opportunity to share their ideas for improving the community of Waukon at a design open house being hosted by the Waukon Visioning Committee prior to the Waukon Music in the Park performance featuring Waukon’s own Annie Ellingson Thursday, June 13 at Waukon City Park, which begins at 7 p.m. This open house is the culmination of an input-gathering process to identify transportation needs and opportunities for enhancements within the Waukon community. Information collected at public input gathering events from earlier this spring will be incorporated into a conceptual transportation and landscape enhancement plan.
A design team will be working at a shelter located in the Waukon City Park throughout the afternoon to develop a conceptual plan that meets the goals and needs of the City of Waukon. The public is invited to stop in between 4-7 p.m. this Thursday at that Waukon City Park shelter location to provide input on the designs. The results from the focus-group workshops will be available.
As part of this process, members of the Waukon Visioning Committee have focused on priorities based on input from community members who participated in those focus-group workshops. Among the higher priorities suggested through community input are replacement of existing sidewalks and installation of new sidewalks where they currently do not exist, a local and regional trail system, working towards more vegetation/tree canopy around town, as well as signage and crosswalks within the community.
Organizers want to hear from Waukon residents on the various proposed concepts and hear what they would like to see developed within the community in the future. Interactive displays will be available at the June 13 workshop, and from the community feedback received at that event the landscape artist will draft design boards for possible public reveal sometime in August.
