Mary Kay Colsch

Mary Kay Colsch, 73, of New Albin died Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services were held Monday, June 17 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin with Fr. Joseph Sevcik officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery, New Albin. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home in Lansing handled arrangements.

Mary Kathleen Colsch was born in Waukon February 21, 1951, the daughter of Joseph and Kathleen (Mauss) Becker. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing and graduated from St. George High School in 1969, later earning her associate degree in business from NICC. Throughout her life, Mary Kay worked as an executive administrator’s assistant to the CEO of Mayo Clinic in La Crosse, WI.

While in school at St. George, Mary Kay met the love of her life, Roger Colsch. The two were married August 9, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. Together, she and Roger built their dream home in rural New Albin on the sand cove.

Mary Kay was part of the Rosary Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church and volunteered her time at St. Clare Mission in La Crosse. Mary Kay enjoyed her daily walks with her best friend, the occasional trip to the casino with her family, side-by-side rides, and Saturday morning coffee on the porch. She was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and loved watching the games with her husband and her sons.

More than anything, Mary Kay loved her family. She loved nothing more than being able to show her love through a home cooked meal and good conversation. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their ball games, get-togethers on the family farm, sisters’ day boat rides, and sharing a pizza.

Mary Kay was such a caring person, showing kindness and love to all who knew her. She was a precious gift from God with so much beauty, grace, love, and patience. She touched the hearts of many in so many ways. Mary Kay above all was a caretaker of her family from a very young age, earning her the title of “The General,” and she never stopped caring for them even when they were taking care of her.

Survivors include her husband, Roger, of New Albin; four sons: Jamie (Becky) Colsch, Scott (Kelly) Colsch and Ryan (Chelsea) Colsch, all of New Albin, and Aaron (Katie) Colsch of Boyd, WI; seven siblings: Jeanne Colsch, Joan Kramer, and Kevin, Kenny, Dan, Joe, and Cullen Becker; 14 grandchildren: Brittany Gantenbein, Jordan Vassar, Michael Harris, Amanda Konik, Tucker, Travis, and Allison Colsch, Brice, Amelia, Miles, and Isaac Vircks, and Payton and Liahna Lechner; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Kathleen Becker; a brother, Larry Becker; her mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Lucille Colsch; a sister-in-law, Debbie Hanson; and a precious grandchild, Caleb Colsch.

Casketbearers were Jamie, Scott, Aaron, Ryan, Travis, and Tucker Colsch.
