Kee softball team wins five of seven games, remaining undefeated in UIC play with sweep of Postville, defeating Marquette Catholic and splitting WD Tourney quartet

The Kee softball team had a busy week of playing games on five of six nights this past week get a little less busy when the Hawks’ Wednesday, June 12 home doubleheader with Clayton Ridge was postponed by stormy weather to June 21. On each side of that postponement, the Kee girls played to five wins in the seven games they did play, currently holding a 9-10 season record that keeps them undefeated in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play at 4-0. Their two UIC wins this past week came by mercy-rule finals, 12-2 in five innings and 22-1 in three innings, at Postville Monday, June 10 before they claimed a 9-5 road win over Marquette Catholic Tuesday, June 11.

The Kee girls then played in the two-day West Delaware Invitational Tournament in Manchester Friday and Saturday, June 14-15, evenly splitting their four games played there, including falling to Class 3A sixth-rated Davenport Assumption, 10-0 in five innings, and to Independence, 6-1, in Friday’s action before defeating Class 5A Cedar Rapids Washington by a 14-11 count and edging out North Fayette Valley, 7-6, to wrap up the 16-team tournament in 13th place. Details of those two Saturday tournament contests will be printed in the June 26 edition of The Standard due to an early print deadline for this June 19 edition of The Standard due to the Juneteenth postal holiday.

The Lady Hawks were next scheduled to play at MFL/MarMac Monday, June 17, at Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 19 and at Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, June 20. They will then play at South Winneshiek Wednesday, June 26 before playing in the Don Bosco Tournament Friday and Saturday, June 28-29.
