Joel E. Conderman, 71, of Waukon passed away Friday, June 28, 2024, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Monday, July 8, at the Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon. Burial will be held in Greenfield Cemetery in Knierim.
Joel Edwin Conderman was born April 3, 1954, in Fort Dodge, the son of Walter L. and Myrna M. (Green) Conderman. The family later moved to Cedar Rapids. Joel was confirmed at Westminster Presbyterian Church and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1971. He attended Kirkwood Community College and studied math, music, and business law.
Joel was a graduate of Realtors Institute and was a local realtor from 1975-1981. He became a certified auto mechanic and worked in auto body repair and sales until 1984 in the Cedar Rapids area before relocating to Allamakee County in 1985. Joel worked for Pladsen Motors from 1985 to 1989 and Plad-son Auto Sales from 1990-1999 as a salesperson. He then joined Cabela’s in Prairie du Chien, WI, as an equipment operator until his retirement in 2018.
Joel was a member of the Decorah Area Coin Club and the Wadena Coin Club. He had been a notary public for the state of Iowa. Joel had an inquisitive mind and loved learning. He enjoyed many interests and hobbies including coin collecting, metal detecting, fishing, restoring old cars, completing crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching Jeopardy and the History Channel. In his younger years, he played bass guitar in a country band and was an excellent piano player.
Survivors include his brother Gregory of Hiawatha; and six step-brothers and step-sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Honorary casket bearers are Lyle Moose, Jeff Moe, Chris Bruce, Greg Troendle, Rod Peterson, and Gordon Steffenson. Many thanks go to Joel’s friends, neighbors, and medical personnel who provided much needed support and assistance during his illness. Those acts of kindness will always be remembered.
