Wednesday Night Riders provide rides to residents of Northgate Care Center in Waukon ...

A local group of motorcycle riders known as the “Wednesday Night Riders” have volunteered their personal time to take residents of Northgate Care Center, owned and operated by ABCM Corporation, out for rides on their three-wheeled trike motorcycles. The Wednesday Night Riders typically meet Wednesday evenings in Waukon and go on rides throughout northeast Iowa, southwest Wisconsin, and southeast Minnesota. The group currently consists of about 35 riders and drivers from Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties. The rides that the group goes on are designed to take time out of their busy schedules so they can get out and enjoy the peace and beauty of the local areas. The group also takes couples rides as well as men’s trips.

There are no membership fees or requirements, so anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic-filled ride with a welcoming motorcycle group is welcome to join in on the fun with the Wednesday Night Riders. The rides given to residents of Northgate Care Center are just one of the ways the group conveys one of its main goals, which is to convey to the general public that motorcycle groups can have fun without speed, dangerous antics or loud mufflers.

The Wednesday Night Riders also do work to support as many local charitable events as possible, and they are currently the main support for the Hospice Program at WinnMed in Decorah. The group has also expanded so they can take residents from long-term care facilities who are able, and who have consented, on three-wheeled motorcycle rides. Diane Juran, Activity Coordinator at Northgate Care Center, commented, “The residents and staff are so grateful to Bob Rotach and the Wednesday Night Riders for taking the time out of their busy schedules to host this event”. She went on to say, “Our residents loved this event last year, and they were very excited that the event was going to be hosted again this year”. Submitted photo.
