Dewey V. Prouty, 74, of Waukon died Monday, July 1, 2024, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 6 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Sue Klimstra officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor.
Dewey Vern Prouty was born January 1, 1950, in Waukon, the son of James and Lauryne (Rush) Prouty. Dewey was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church and was baptized and confirmed in Waukon.
He attended country and Waukon schools. Dewey married the love of his life, Lorraine Cardin, August 1, 1973, in Illinois. Throughout his life, he worked as a heavy equipment operator at Rhiem Construction, JB Holland Construction, and Bruening Rock Products, from where he eventually retired.
He enjoyed stockcar racing, which he did for many years. More than anything, Dewey loved spending time with his family and relaxing in his La-Z-Boy recliner.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine, of Waukon; two sons, Jim (Veronica) Prouty of Oelwein and Jamie (Nicole Anibas) Prouty of La Crescent, MN; seven grandchildren: Jillian, Claire, and Ryne Prouty, James and Amanda Anibas, and Cole and Morgan Prouty; and one great-grandchild, Berklee Gage.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Deb (Richard) Thornton.
Honorary casketbearers were James Anibas and Elmer Hanson. Casketbearers were Bill Holland, Joe and Luke Howard, Jeff Leiran, Jim Powers, and Tom Riehm.
