Robert Sturch

Robert (“Bob, Papa, Stuey”) Sturch, 74, of Harpers Ferry, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, at his home in Harpers Ferry. A military honors service will be held Saturday, August 3 at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Harpers Ferry with a luncheon to follow at the Legion Hall. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family.

Robert Norland Sturch was born July 3, 1949, to Richard and Maizie (Odet-Dalzick) Sturch; he had two sisters, Kim and Andrea, and two brothers, Jerry and Ryan. Bob served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Intrepid. He also served as a Shriner, helping children, and was a member of the Masonic Temple. Bob worked at and retired from John Deere.

April 11, 1980, Bob married Sandra Morgan; Sandie passed away May 8, 2024. Together, they built a life with children, grandkids, and great-grandkids that they loved and cherished. If you knew Bob, you knew that he would only have the best of the best and he lived for his family. He bent over backwards for his family and made sure everyone was taken care of, no matter what they needed. He always made sure the grandkids and great-grandkids had money to go to Barry’s for snacks and ice cream and also made sure there were cinnamon rolls Sunday mornings.

Throughout his life, he loved to deer hunt, watch stock car racing, ride his motorcycle, go boating and fishing on the Mississippi River, watch Dallas Cowboys football games, and tell stories. Bob also loved making the rounds to see all the guys back in Waterloo and Waukon, and in Prairie du Chien, WI.

He was part of the Harpers Ferry coffee club, was currently a member of the Harpers Ferry American Legion, and was a favorite for calling Bingo Saturday nights. For several years, he drove the veterans van for their Iowa City VA appointments. His life touched so many and he will be deeply missed.
