Richard (Dickie) Wilkins, age 84, of Germany, and formerly of Decorah, died June 29, 2024 at his home. A private military service will take place in Germany Wednesday, July 17.
Dickie was born August 26, 1939 to Wilbur and Nina (Cahoon) Wilkins at home near Rossville. April 3, 1962 Dickie married Wilma (Susie) Rebmann in Germany.
Dickie enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1960, and he retired March 1, 1980. He continued to make his home in Germany, working for a German construction company, building roads and bridges.
Dickie is survived by his wife of 62 years, Wilma; his children, Peter, Michael, and Diane; his grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Michael and Sarah; three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lorraine (Sis) Sacquitne, Marjorie O’Hare and Ann Hotvedt; his half-brothers and sisters, Kenneth (JoAnn), Loren, Lorna (Chuck) Duvel, Ruth Ann (Leo) Walleser, Kurt, Keith, Niles (Denise), Patti (David) Vine and Marcella (Gerry) Berg; and several nieces and nephews.
Dickie was preceded in death by his parents; his father- and mother-in-law; his brothers, Donald (Margaret), Eldean (Janet) and Tommy; his brothers-in-law, Bud Sacquitne, Jim O’Hare and Orvin Hotvedt; his half-brother, Robert; and half-sister-in-law, Cathy.
