Lyla M. Hanson, 81, of Waukon died Monday, July 15, 2024, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon with Pastor Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may greet the family from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

Lyla Marlene Hanson was born June 23, 1943, to Jerald and Irene (Erickson) Runice. She was baptized August 15, 1943, at West Prairie Hauge Church in Crawford County, WI. She graduated from De Soto High School in 1961. September 8, 1962, Lyla married Alvin Hanson in La Crescent, MN.
Throughout her life, she worked retail at many places, including Kwik Trip, Ioco, Quick Draw’s, and Quillins - from where she eventually retired.
Lyla was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Waukon. She was an avid card player and a very talented musician. She played the accordion, organ, and guitar and loved to sing. Lyla enjoyed talking to and getting to know people. She was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Lyla is survived by her four children: Denise (Brian) Wullner of Waukon, Janet (Jeff) Mezera of Prairie du Chien, WI, Jeff Hanson of Waukon, and Debra (John) Pladsen of Chanhassen, MN; 10 grandchildren: Sarah (Caleb) Rosonke, Justin (Miranda) Mezera, Jordan Mezera, Donny, Kevin, Joey, Ethan, and Emily Hanson, and Katie and Will Pladsen; three great-grandchildren: Breqlynn, Caylee, and Reya Mezera; four siblings: Jerrilynne “Dana” Waters, Alma (Gary) Robertson, Beatrice Peterson, and Mardele (Remi) Moore; her sister-in-law, Ellen Runice; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin, in 2016; three brothers: Wayne, Verdell, and John Runice; a granddaughter, Jamie Mezera; and two brothers-in-law, James Peterson and Charlie Waters.
