David Klocke

David Leo Klocke passed to his heavenly home at age 77 August 17, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. A funeral service was held at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO August 23.

David was born September 24, 1946 in Waukon, the son of Leo and Dorothy Klocke. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in rural Postville. David attended a country grade school, Ludlow #7, and then graduated from Waukon High School in 1964. He also attended and graduated from Luther College in Decorah.

David grew up on the family farm near Waukon. As kids he and his brother, Larry, were baseball fans and they enjoyed following their favorite team, the Milwaukee Braves (as they were called then) on the radio.

After college graduation, David moved to Kansas City, KS, where he was employed by the Social Security Administration. He worked there until his retirement, except for three years he spent in the U.S. Army, serving most of that time in Wurzburg, Germany.

David married the love of his life, Barbara Fick, August 21, 1993, and they have resided at their home in Independence, MO. They enjoyed traveling to many places together: Cancun, Mexico, Virgin Islands, Austria, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, the Panama Canal, and also many places in the United States. He enjoyed photography and took many photos while he and Barbara were on their vacations.

David and Barbara were loyal fans of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, attending games together and with family who came from Iowa to visit. Even though he had lived in Missouri many years, he was still an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara; a sister, Maxine Bloxham, and her husband, Charles, of Waukon; a brother, Larry, and his wife, Nancy, of Harpers Ferry; two nieces and two nephews: Jason Bloxham and Jenny Stegen, and Sara Lustberg and Ben Klocke; nine great-nieces and great-nephews: Connor, Grace, Dylan and Vaughn Stegen, Spencer, Hannah and Zachary Bloxham, and Eli and Aiden Lustberg; his uncle, Curtis Schoenthal; along with several beloved cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; two cousins; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milton “Bud” and Doris Fick.
