Fields of Faith 2024 in Waukon October 9 to feature former Iowa State football/track & field athlete, FCA member

Everyone is invited to join area youth on athletic fields across the nation Wednesday, October 9 in sharing their Christian faith with other students and the general public for this year’s Fields of Faith event. The local event is now in its 13th year and will open to the public at 6:30 p.m., with the event scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Waukon High School football field Wednesday, October 9, or in the Waukon High School gym in the event of bad weather.

Featured speaker for this year’s Fields of Faith event in Waukon will be RJ Sumrall, a former Iowa State University football player and track & field athlete who will be sharing his message of how God got a hold of his life before a big game against the University of Nebraska in 2007 and changed it forever. Since that time, Sumrall has loved to work with students and disciple young people in their walk with Jesus, working through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) organization that he first became acquainted with as a college student/athlete. Ten years ago, he stepped away from his corporate job to join that ministry that had profoundly impacted his life, currently serving as Area Director at Mid-Iowa Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He and his wife, Steff, have three sons and one daughter.

In addition to Sumrall, six area high school students will also be presenting their own testimonies of faith in their young lives that evening. Waukon High School students Faith Cooper, Olivia Dougherty, Mallory Berns, Halea Corwin and Damon Berger, along with Malachi Rothlisberger from North Fayette Valley High School, will share their faith messages. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
