John Davis, 70, affectionately known as Johnny, passed away in his home Wednesday, September 25, 2024. A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2025 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.
Known for living life on his own terms, Johnny embraced every chance for fun and adventure. Growing up in Waukon, he spent his childhood playing basketball and softball, and trout fishing with his father on Patterson Creek. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1972 and later joined the United States Marine Corps, of which he was eternally proud.
Johnny was a natural storyteller and traveled across the country, weaving tales from his journeys that were always more or less true. One of his favorite things was sharing his love of good old rock-n-roll with his daughters, Sarena and Tiphani, and taking them both to numerous concerts throughout the years. Johnny was one of a kind and never met a stranger, greeting everyone with a firm handshake and the sharp glint of those ‘Davis’ eyes, which sparkled with mischief whenever he flashed his signature side wink. Johnny’s fearless nature and infectious charm will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Johnny leaves behind his two daughters, Sarena and Tiphani Davis; and his three grandchildren, Aiyanna Davis Morrison, Phynlea Davis Holbert, and Tristan Burman, who he loved dearly. He also leaves behind his sisters, Janet (Lou) Bork and Lynn Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Leonard (Stub) and Anna (Bresnahan) Davis; his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Arthur Berns; his brother-in-law, Dale Wiliams; and his niece, Mindy Schrandt.
Johnny also left behind his buddy, a three-legged cat that appeared on his porch one day and never left; he called him Irish.
