Roger Stock

Roger W. Stock, 85, of Waukon died Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 19 at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Karla Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors was at the church cemetery.

Roger Wayne Stock was born May 9, 1939, in Waukon, the son of Reuben Simon and Luella Caroline (Nagel) Stock. He was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, where he was a lifetime member. Country school started as a challenge for him, as his family only spoke German at home and Roger did not know English; his teacher made him stand in the corner until he learned.

Roger graduated from Waukon High School and in October of 1957, enlisted in the Army Reserves, serving a year before being honorably discharged. Roger was a lifelong farmer and worked his parents’ farm in Ludlow Township, raising chickens, calves, and crops; though he retired in 1995, he continued to live on the farm until moving into Waukon in 2020. August 7, 1976, Roger married Carol Jean Thompson at Zalmona; Carol passed away in 2003.

Roger loved classic cars, particularly his blue Cadillac convertible, and belonged to the Allamakee Auto Club, driving in parades and going on rides. In the fall of 2003, he called up Linda (Bublitz) Manning to ask if she wanted to ride with him in the upcoming parade, and the two have been together ever since. They spent 15 winters in Panama City Beach, FL. Roger also enjoyed boating on the Mississippi and attending family fish fries.

He is survived by his significant other, Linda Manning of Waukon; his nephew, Eric VanVliet of Decorah; his nieces, Suzanne (Ron) Rowe of Whitehall, MT, and Lea Ann VanVliet of Decorah; his great-nephews, Ryder and Colt Rowe; a great-great-niece and great-great-nephew; his cousin, Shirley Brainard of Waukon; three stepsons: Brian (Amy) Manning of Ossian, and Scott (Jill) and Glenn (Jodie) Manning, both of Waukon; nine step-grandchildren: Libby, Abby, Zack, Jordan, Hope, Makayla, Sabrina, Whitney, and Jessie; his step-niece and step-nephew, Breanna and Brandon; and his brothers-in-law, Roger and Kevin (Sue) Bublitz.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; and his sister, Beverly (Larry) Whittle.

Casketbearers were Eric VanVliet, Roger and Kevin Bublitz, Gerald Brink, Scott Williger, Kenny Klepper, and John Opfer.
