Drew Adam, a Service Technician at R.W. Pladsen, Inc. in Waukon, recently achieved GM World Class Technician certification through General Motors (GM). The achievement is accomplished through the training and certifications available from the GM Service Technical College (STC) and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) training programs.

Described as the highest level of achievement a GM technician can earn, World Class Technician status requires mechanical technicians to successfully complete eight of nine Master Technician Certifications in the mechanical area, along with the accompanying ASE Certifications. Technicians can choose to complete either Engine Performance or Diesel Engine Performance along with completing seven other mechanical-related certifications that include Electrical/Electronics; Engine Repair; Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; Brakes; Steering and Suspension; Manual Drivetrain and Axle; and Automatic Transmission/Transaxle. Once a technician successfully completes a Master Technician Certification assessment, that technician will remain Master Technician Certified as long as he/she continues to achieve 100% Service Training Standards annually by December 31 for the select area(s) in which he/she is certified.

“A common misconception is that we simply plug a computer in to diagnose and fix cars; however, that is only the starting point,” explains R.W. Pladsen, Inc. Service Manager Austin Roney. “As modern automobiles become more technologically advanced, the need for factory training is not just important, but necessary to provide the best service possible. From the technician that changes your oil to the technician overhauling a transmission, we heavily invest in GM factory training for all of our employees to keep vehicles running in top condition.”
