Waukon Police Department adds “Scams” page to its website

The Waukon Police Department has launched a “Scams” page on its website to help citizens identify the various types of scams and what they should be aware of to hopefully protect themselves from becoming a victim of a scam or fraudulent act. Police Department officials say the department will continue to add to this page as they become aware of new scams.

The “Scams” page can be found on the Waukon Police Department website, at www.waukonpolice.com, by clicking on the “Scams” tab at the top of the homepage (circled in red in the submitted image accompanying this article). Scams are listed on that tabbed page under various headers, and clicking on those headers will lead to a description of what each scam has entailed, or may entail. There is also a list of “Ways to protect yourself” resources that can be clicked on for further informational assistance with prevention and/or follow-up measures.

The Waukon Police Department encourages anyone to reach out by email, at reports@waukonpolice.com, if they are aware of a scam that is not posted on the web page. Citizens are also encouraged to check back frequently as new and/or adapted scams are added to this collection.

“The information provided on this page is for educational and awareness purposes only,” the disclaimer on the web page states. “Please reach out to a trusted individual, financial institute (bank), or your local law enforcement if you need guidance or have questions. If you are aware of a scam that we have not covered on this page, please reach out to us so we can get information regarding the scam. Do not risk your personal safety or security to get information or to further the scam in an effort to provide us with details.”
