Kee boys basketball team remains undefeated in Upper Iowa Conference play with 74-36 home victory over Clayton Ridge

A “grand” recognition ... Kee boys basketball senior Jordan Cota stands with his parents, Jeff and Melissa Cota, as he is honored before the Hawks’ Tuesday, December 17 home game with Clayton Ridge for scoring the 1,000th point of his varsity basketball career at Kee High School, a feat he accomplished a week earlier late in the first quarter of the Hawks’ Tuesday, December 10 home game with Postville. Cota becomes the seventh Kee boys basketball player to achieve that scoring milestone, joining former Hawks Ric Zarwell, Pat Heiderscheit, Gabe Schultz, Quinn Schultz, Danny Brennan and, most recently, in January 2022, Dalton Dibert. The Kee boys basketball team was only able to play one game prior to the early print deadline for this week’s edition of The Standard due to the Christmas holiday. That single game proved to be the continuation of an early-season roll the Hawks have been putting together against fellow Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) squads thus far this season, as they erupted to another double-digit headstart on the way to a fourth consecutive UIC victory by at least 30 points, this one being a 74-36 home triumph over Clayton Ridge.

The basketball Hawks were also scheduled to host Central Elkader Friday, December 20 prior to the holiday break from school, with that game not being played in time to meet the early press deadline for this week’s edition of The Standard due to the Christmas holiday, but that game result will be reported in a future edition. Kee’s boys will return to the court Friday, January 3 to play at North Fayette Valley before playing at MFL/MarMac Tuesday, January 7 and then hosting South Winneshiek Friday, January 10.
