Waukon boys wrestling team splits home double dual, falling to Decorah by a 57-21 count before holding off a Riceville charge for a 45-28 victory

The Waukon boys wrestling team made its season debut in front of its hometown fans and came away with a split result in its double-dual event featuring Decorah and Riceville Tuesday, December 17. The Indians first surrendered a 57-21 defeat to the visiting Vikings before wrestling Riceville to a 45-28 victory in the nightcap dual. Decorah handed Riceville a 63-18 defeat in the other dual wrestled at the event by those two squads.

The Waukon matmen were also scheduled to compete in a multi-team event at Postville Thursday, December 19 and in the Starmont Tournament Saturday, December 21 prior to the holiday break, with those results not being completed in time to meet the early print deadline for this week’s edition of The Standard but being reported in a future edition. Following the holidays, the Indians will return to the mat Tuesday, January 7 when they wrestle at South Winneshiek before hosting Charles City and Caledonia, MN Thursday, January 9 and then competing in the Crestwood Tournament Saturday, January 11.
