The Waukon girls wrestling team battled through their busiest week of the season, competing on three nights out of five during the past school week, including a pair of multi-team tournaments to book-end the week. The Lady Indians began the week with a fifth-place team finish in the 13-team field of the Dubuque Senior Tournament Monday, January 13, having three wrestlers claim runner-up finishes to lead that charge.
The mat Tribe then competed in its final Northeast Iowa Conference dual meet competition of the season when Waukon traveled to Crestwood Thursday, January 16 and ended up on the short end of a 60-18 final result. The Indians wrapped up their week with their best final result of the week, and perhaps of the season, when they topped the 10-team field at the Postville Round Robin Tournament Friday, January 17, claiming three weight class championships to help win that team crown.
Waukon’s wrestling ladies were next scheduled to host North Fayette Valley and Prairie du Chien, WI Thursday, January 23 and then compete in a Friday, January 24 tournament at Central Elkader before preparing for their State Qualifying Tournament scheduled for Friday, January 31 at East Buchanan High School in Winthrop. Details of that postseason trail are printed in a shaded box on the Wednesday, January 22, 2025 Sports pages.
