Lollie Hirth

Lollie E. Hirth, 82, of Waukon died Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at her home in Waukon. Memorial services were held Monday, January 27 at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Cathy Jurgens officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Memorials can be made to Veterans Memorial Hospital or Winn Med Hospice.

Loleta “Lollie” Eloise Hirth was born August 12, 1942, the daughter of Elmer Ehde and Leota (Phipps) Snitker in rural Waukon. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ, both in Waukon, and attended Waukon schools. October 24, 1959, she married Gary Charles Hirth at Zion United Church of Christ. Lollie stayed at home to take care of her children until they were raised. She worked at the Food Ranch Cafe, Gambles Store, and Makee Manor, all in Waukon.

Lollie was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where she was very active in ladies’ circles and other committees. She volunteered at Veterans Memorial Hospital, the Greenhouse, Meals on Wheels, and helped package food for the needy at church. Lollie enjoyed working in her flowerbeds, her garden, watching the birds, reading, playing cards, traveling, fishing, and baking chocolate chip cookies, bars, and cinnamon rolls. She loved spending time with her family and attending the grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities; Lollie was their number one fan. Lollie was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved watching all sporting events.

Survivors include her children: Greg Hirth and Wayne (Diane) Hirth, both of Waukon, Jerry (Kendra) Hirth of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, Lisa (Joe) McCaughey of Austin, TX, and Brent (Jennifer) Hirth of Keenesburg, CO; 11 grandchildren: Nicholas Hirth, Jeremy Hirth, Alicia (Hirth) Smith, Whitney Hirth, Courtney Hirth, Mike McCaughey, Allie McCaughey, Sarah McCaughey, Baylee Hirth, Emily Hirth, and Blayne Hirth; nine great-grandchildren: Hadley, Sullivan, Heath, Huxley, Laynee, and Kohen Hirth, and Brandt, Gunnar, and Letty Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary, in 2019; an infant son, Richard Gary Hirth; a sister, Shirley Pausch; a half-brother, Alan Snitker; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Helen Hirth.

Honorary urn bearers were Alicia Smith, Whitney Hirth, Courtney Hirth, Jessie Hirth, Robyn Hirth, Allie McCaughey, Sarah McCaughey, Baili McCaughey, Baylee Hirth, and Emily Hirth. Urn bearers were Nicholas and Jeremy Hirth, Josh Smith, Chris Flenker, Marshall Lyons, Mike McCaughey, Blayne Hirth, and Eric Nguyen.
