Lanette Burroughs
Lanette K. Burroughs, 72, formerly of Waukon, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025 at her home in Hazleton. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The Reiff Family Center - Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence is assisting the family with arrangements.
Lanette Kay Allen was born August 10, 1952 in Decorah, the daughter of Leslie and Ruth (Myren) Allen. She grew up in Frankville and was a 1970 graduate of Postville High School. Lanette was a talented singer and participated in the school and church choirs, and played guitar.
In 1985, Lanette graduated from Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon and later worked as a hospice nurse.
Lanette was married to Philip Fowler and blessed with two daughters, Carrieanne and Crystal. She and Phil later divorced. In 1998, Lanette married Garland Gale “Bugsy” Burroughs and gained four stepchildren, David (Sue) Burroughs, Deborah (Steve) Wolfe, Daniel Burroughs, and Darren (Angie) Burroughs. She was blessed with many grandchildren through this union. Lanette and Bugsy later separated.
Lanette enjoyed the outdoors. She spent countless hours volunteering at animal rescues and rehabilitation centers. She was also very talented in making and selling beaded jewelry and leather items at local flea markets.
Lanette enjoyed dancing and often was the first on the dance floor. She had a kind heart and a quick wit and will be dearly missed.
Lanette is survived by her children, Crystal (Scott) Hughes of Waterloo, and her stepchildren; her grandchildren: Kennedy Larson (Zac Crandall), Brooklyn Larson (Mitch Nordheim), Dakota (Karen) Holly, Blake Holly and Ethan Holly; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sonya (Robert) Jedele of Kalona and Mary Martin of Waukon; three brothers, Duane (Barb) Allen of North English, Doyle (Terri) Allen of Postville, and Darwin (Tammi) Allen of Mukilteo, WA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Ruth Allen; a daughter, Carrieanne Larson; a step-son, Daniel Burroughs; her granddaughters, Carly Larson and Mikayla Archuleta; a niece, Jennie Mahr; and a nephew, David Jedele.
