Mystery Night at the Pops: A musical extravaganza for all ages

Get ready for a night full of mystery, music, and fun at the 16th annual Pops Concert, a fundraiser hosted by the Allamakee Music Boosters. This highly anticipated event will take place Friday, February 28 at 7 p.m. in the Waukon Middle School gym.

The concert will feature a line-up of performances from the grades 7-12 choir students, RockBand vocal and instrumental students, Jazz Bands, Drumline, and the Waukon High School Band. All proceeds from the concert will go directly to support the Music Boosters and the Allamakee Community School District’s music programs, ensuring that students continue to have the opportunity to grow and shine through music.

This year’s theme, “Mystery Night at the Pops,” promises to bring an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Emcees Dekota Bechtel, Annie Ellingson, Memphis Miller, Eireann Goettel, and Sean Engle will guide the audience through a “Scooby-Doo-inspired” mystery adventure. The musical performances will unfold around this fun and mysterious theme, providing both entertainment and a sense of intrigue.

The Choir’s “At Night” Musical Journey
The grades 7-12 choir students will take center stage with a collection of songs that all revolve around the theme of “at night.” The concert will begin with the 7-12 Girls Choir singing “Dance the Night Away,” setting the stage for a lively and energetic evening. The 7-12 Boys Choir will follow with their rendition of the classic “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” creating a soothing and nostalgic atmosphere.

The High School Choir will then perform “Sky Full of Stars,” a soaring ballad that compares the beauty of people to the night sky. The Chamber Choir will showcase their harmonies with a powerful rendition of “At Last I See the Light,” evoking feelings of hope and transformation. Finally, the entire choir will unite for a dynamic, full-ensemble performance of “Firework,” a high-energy and uplifting song that will fill the gym with excitement.

Rock On with Rock Bands for Singers
The school is excited to continue its Rock Band for Singers program, where students combine their vocal talents with live instrumentation. The Middle School Rock Band will perform “I’ve Gotta Feeling,” and the High School Rock Band, Eeka Malla, will showcase “Orion.” These performances are a fantastic new addition to the concert, bringing a fresh, energetic vibe to the evening. Everyone is encourage to come and cheer on these young rock stars as they bring a whole new sound to this year’s Pops Concert.

Jazz and Percussion: A Diverse Musical Experience
In addition to the vocal performances, the instrumental groups will offer a diverse musical experience. The High School Jazz Band will bring the house down with a pair of classic jazz standards, “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie” and “Keep the Motor Running,” both sure to get toes tapping and heads nodding.

The Middle School Jazz Band will be showcasing its talents on “Jammin’ with Charlie” and “Uncle Milo’s Side Show”. The Drumline will take the spotlight next, showcasing its rhythmic talents with traditional percussion pieces before joining forces with the High School Band for a collaborative performance of “Walking on the Sun.” This upbeat and energetic song will be the finale for this musical evening.

Supporting Music Programs
The Pops Concert is not only a celebration of local student talent but also a crucial fundraiser for the Music Boosters. The funds raised from ticket sales, donations, and concessions will go directly toward supporting the Allamakee Community School District’s music programs, providing much-needed resources for instruments, sheet music, uniforms, and more.
