ACSD Board negotiates wages and contracts for school district staff, approves variety of changes in course offerings for 2025-2026

The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) Board of Directors met in a pair of sessions within the past week-plus, including a March 10 session regarding contract negotiations followed by the board’s regular monthly meeting held Monday, March 17. Coverage of both meetings appears below.
MARCH 10 NEGOTIATIONS
The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) Board Negotiations Committee members met with Allamakee Community Education Association (ACEA) representatives to discuss contract negotiations Monday afternoon, March 10. In its initial proposal, the ACEA asked for a base salary increase of $500 to $34,460. The total increase with step movement, insurance increase, lane change increase and the increase in the base came to 4.26%. Step movement and lane changes would be given according to Article V, Section 3 of the Master Contract. The ACEA proposal also included a year agreement on the Salary Schedule. ACEA representatives also discussed personal leave for staff being able to use more than two personal days in row, with approval. They also discussed substitute teacher coverage compensation and personal day reimbursement.
The ACSD Board then presented its initial proposal, which included removal of part (e) of Section 1 of Article IV, regarding not using more than two personal days in succession. The board proposed a $250 increase to the teaching base and coaching base. Teacher Salary Supplement money would be dispersed according to Iowa law and at the District’s discretion, with input from the ACEA. The board also proposed a one-year contract, with its proposal representing a 3.96% total package increase.
MARCH 17 REGULAR SESSION
The ACSD Board held its regular monthly meeting Monday night, March 17. Under the Consent Agenda, the following personnel recommendations were approved: Carley Sweeney as volunteer golf coach and third grade Professional Learning Community (PLC) Leader, Nate Keenan as summer custodial help, and Ann Hagensick as Student Services PLC Leader.
The board accepted the resignations of Lee Stegen from his positions as eighth grade girls basketball coach, eighth grade boys basketball coach and middle school yearbook positions. The board also accepted the resignation of Scotti Hagensick from her Student Success Coordinator position. Two open enrollments out of the district were approved, as was the Area Education Association (AEA) Purchasing Agreement.
