Waukon girls track team kicks off 2025 season competing in pair of indoor meets, claims top-15 relay finishes at Dickinson Relays and IATC Indoor Championships

The Waukon girls track and field team got its 2025 season off to a relatively busy start for early in the season, competing at a couple indoor venues this past week at different degrees of multiple events. The Lady Indians had multiple athletes compete in seven events at the Dickinson Relays hosted by the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls Tuesday, March 11 before having a pair of relay events compete in the Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) Indoor Championships hosted by Iowa State University in Ames Thursday-Friday, March 13-14.

The Waukon girls had more than a dozen athletes compete in seven different events at the girls Dickinson Relays in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls March 11. The Lady Indians recorded a pair of top-25 event finishes in their respective fields among teams and individual competitors from all class sizes throughout the state of Iowa.

The track Tribe’s best finish on the day was claimed by its 4x800 relay squad of juniors Emma O’Neill and Elle Wilkins, sophomore Reegan Benzing and freshman Miriam Downing that placed 15th in that 55-team field in a time of 10:32.0, which turned out to be the fastest time recorded by a Class 2A school in that event Tuesday. The Dickinson 4x800 championship was won by the foursome from Johnston in a time of 9:41.12.

Waukon’s girls were next scheduled to compete as a full team at the final Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) Indoor Meet at Luther College in Decorah Tuesday, March 25. They are then slated to begin their outdoor competition schedule Tuesday, April 1 at the Frostbite Invitational hosted by Sumner-Fredericksburg before competing at the Postville Invitational Tuesday, April 8.
