The Waukon boys golf team will once again feature one of its largest recent squads, as 22 young men have reported for early-season duty this spring. Of those 22 Indian linksters, four of them return with varsity letterwinning experience from previous seasons.
Those four varsity veterans bringing back their experience on the links include senior Dalton Ellickson and the junior trio of Reid Deeney, Trevor Peiffer and Dylan Stegen. Ellickson is one of just two seniors on this season’s roster, as Seth Lloyd joins him as the other most upperclassman member of this spring’s squad.
The junior returning letterwinner trio makes up just under half of this season’s class of seven juniors, with four sophomores being part of this spring’s roster, and the largest class among this season’s team members coming from this year’s freshman class of nine players. “I am surprised by the number of freshmen out this year,” Waukon boys golf coach Tharin Benson shared. “We will have experience at the varsity level and should be able to compete with most teams.”
The Indians were scheduled to get their 2025 campaign underway with a Tuesday, April 1 non-conference road date north of the border at Houston, MN before playing back-to-back road dates at Decorah and in the North Fayette Valley Triangular Monday and Tuesday, April 7 and 8. A busy following week will see the golf Tribe open its home schedule for this season Monday, April 14 against Crestwood before playing in a pair of non-conference triangulars on the road, including Tuesday, April 15 at Luana and Thursday, April 17 at Guttenberg.
