The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, April 7 to address a variety of matters including the Proclamation for Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the consideration of contracts and bonds for gravel road rock, and the consideration of a proposed underground natural gas main southwest  of Waukon. The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Dan Byrnes with Supervisors Dennis Keatley and Tom Clark present.

The meeting moved into Public Comment with Executive Director Val Reinke of Allamakee County Economic Development (ACED) providing an update relating to recent and upcoming events. Reinke discussed the career fair held Friday, April 4 at Waukon High School which she advised included 50 exhibitors and was open to the public as well as students. She shared that the Postville Community School District’s Diversity Celebration was held Sunday, April 6 with the first hour food tasting event, the portion of the day requiring a ticket purchase to sample food from 10 different countries, being sold out. Reinke also made note of Waterville’s Daddy/Daughter Dance held Saturday, April 5. She discussed an upcoming event relating to the Rural Development Council which she will be attending with Waukon City Manager Gary Boden and Developer Ben Garrett relating to housing projects, in addition to discussing other upcoming events and meetings within the county.

County Auditor Denise Beyer advised that some changes have taken place relating to the online posting of manure management plan (MMP) updates. Byrnes and Beyer noted that an abbreviated version of MMPs are currently available online following a website change, with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) field office providing full versions of these plan updates by email upon request. Byrnes recommended that members of the public interested in viewing MMPs can contact the County Auditor’s office for assistance in this process.

The meeting moved into the Proclamation for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Sexual Assault Advocate Shiloh Green with the Riverview Center read aloud the Proclamation of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Allamakee County with the Supervisors approving the matter.
