Our Savior’s Lutheran Church to host fifth annual Justice and Peace Stations of the Cross Good Friday

The congregation of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church invites the public to join them for the fifth annual Justice and Peace Stations of the Cross Good Friday - this Friday, April 18, beginning at 10 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, located at 480 Diagonal Street in Lansing. This contemplative prayer walk invites the community to engage deeply with the pressing issues of today’s world while following the path of Jesus to Calvary.

This year, the walk begins at the church and weaves through the heart of Lansing to the banks of the Mississippi River. The group will pause at 12 stations to pray, sing, and reflect on the injustices and suffering that persist in today’s world - from war and poverty to environmental degradation and discrimination. Participants are encouraged to carry signs expressing solidarity with those who suffer.

“Our journey is not just about remembering Christ’s sacrifice; it’s about standing with the marginalized as Jesus did,” explains Pastor Laura Gentry. “The goal of this annual tradition is to bring attention to the urgent need for justice and peace right here in our community and around the world.”

This outdoor service is open to people of all ages and faith backgrounds. The route is approximately one mile and will take a little over an hour. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather.

A freewill offering will support the work of LIFT (Lansing Iowa Food Trust), the local community food bank, ensuring that the spirit of compassion continues beyond this event. No registration is required. For a map of the route and more information, visit LansingLutherans.org. Submitted photo.
