Waukon girls track and field team competes among Class 2A elite at State Track and Field Meet, will return all of this year’s qualifiers

The Waukon girls track and field team had all three of its events that were qualified for the Class 2A State Track & Field Meet held Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines result in finishes within the latter half of the Class 2A elite in each of those three event fields. The more encouraging aspect of this season’s State Meet experience for the track and field Tribe is that every single one of the seven young ladies who competed for the Indians is an underclassman eligible to return next season - and some for several seasons into the future.
The Waukon girls had their 2025 State Meet experience start off with sophomore Blythe Bucknell making her State Meet debut in the Class 2A shot put Thursday morning, May 22. Bucknell launched three throws in the preliminary round of competition of 36’8.25”, 34’8.5” and 35’6.75”, with her first throw being her best of the season grand finale and landing her in 16th place overall in the 24-thrower Class 2A field, shy of the ninth-place finals qualifying distance that ended up at 38’5.5”. This year’s Class 2A State Champion in the shot put is Estherville-Lincoln Central senior Hillary Ruschy, who unleashed a best throw of 43’1”.
