Martha Jenkins

Martha Jane Jenkins was born in Mattoon, IL to V. Lucille (Thompson) and Wayne Jenkins. At the age of two, the family moved to northeast Iowa where her father farmed in rural Lansing and Waterville until his death in 1963. The family then moved to Waukon.

Martha graduated from Waukon High School as part of the Class of 1965. She then attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse where she earned a teaching degree.

Her first teaching position was in rural Wisconsin. She later earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin and American University. In total, she was an educator for 37 years including nine years at the Philippines Clark Air Force Base and the Frankfort International School in Germany. She then continued her teaching career at Stone Middle School in Centreville, VA until retirement.

She loved to travel and visited 45 foreign countries and 48 states. She enjoyed camping and visiting friends during her travels. She was a member of her local folk music club.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister, Janice; and a nephew, Nathan Jenkins.

Martha is survived by a brother, Ronald Jenkins of York, PA; a nephew, Adam Jenkins of Marietta, PA; a nephew, Christopher Jenkins of Red Lion, PA; and a grand-niece, Ellie Capriglione of Red Lion, PA.

A celebration of life service will be held at United Christian Parish, 11508 North Shore Drive in Reston, VA at a date and time to be determined. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing at a later date.
