Driftless Area Education & Visitors Center to host Conservation Cafe for the public to attend June 11

The Driftless Area Education and Visitors Center in Lansing will host its next Conservation Cafe session Wednesday, June 11, starting at 9:30 a.m. This is a new series that has been started at the Driftless Area Education & Visitors Center to enjoy some social time with a hot beverage and a conservation-focused program following. The program will be free of charge, but advanced registration is encouraged.

Kenny Slocum from the Clayton County Conservation Department will be talking about “Bloody Run: That One Time Everything Worked”. Bloody Run County Park is one of the most popular trout fishing destinations in northeast Iowa, but overlooking the stream itself is one of the most successful restoration projects in Clayton County. The prairie/woodland complex has seen a significant recovery of rare and threatened plant and animal species since the Clayton County Conservation Board began working on the site in the early 2000s. Slocum’s presentation  at the Conservation Cafe will use the site as a model for identifying and restoring degraded fire-dependent habitats.
