Reserve a bucket of junk by this Thursday to participate
The Allamakee County Fair Board is hosting a brand new contest this year that truly falls in line with the old adage of “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. A Bucket of Junk contest will allow area residents to display their creativity and craftsmanship for the Allamakee County Fair, in hopes of winning a cash prize.
Everyone is invited to reserve their bucket of junk from the Allamakee County Fair Board by this Thursday, June 12 by emailing allamakeefair@gmail.com with their name and phone number. Those buckets of junk can then be picked up Monday, June 16 at 6:45 p.m. at the Show Barn at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds in Waukon.
All buckets will have similar pieces of metal junk in them. Participants can weld, paint, cut, bend, and create whatever they’d like. However, extra junk can not be added to the creation, any creation must be made from the pieces in the bucket of junk picked up that June 16 date.
Once completed, participants can bring their creation to this year’s Allamakee County Fair during the Open Class Entry timeframe of Tuesday or Wednesday of this year’s Fair, July 15-16, in the Open Exhibit Building. The Bucket of Junk creations will be on display throughout the Fair and a People’s Choice voting system will determine which entries win cash prizes.
There is no cost to participate in the Bucket of Junk contest. All entries can then be taken home by their creator.
