Diabetes Support Group meeting set for June 19 at VMH

The Veterans Memorial Hospital (VMH) Diabetes Support Group will hold its next meeting Thursday, June 19 at 10 a.m. The meeting will be held at Veterans Memorial Hospital in the ICN Conference Room this month, which is a change in the normal location.  It is located on the lower level of the hospital.

This month’s topic will be foot care. The group will be welcoming back Dr. Kristina Thompson, the hospital’s podiatrist, as the speaker. She is available at the hospital Mondays and Wednesdays to see outpatients. She is also a Certified Diabetes Educator. She will be covering wound prevention, wound treatment and general foot care such as nail care. Diabetes can be a reason someone has to have a foot or leg amputated, and that greatly impacts independence and quality of life. She will also review Medicare benefits available for diabetic shoes.
