Home ›Kee softball team’s lone loss of the week comes to Class 2A fifth-rated Osage, Lady Hawks remain undefeated in UIC play

Pitching win, and pitching in ... Kee softball sophomore pitcher Rylee Mudderman winds up to fire a pitch toward home plate in the Lady Hawks’ home doubleheader sweep of Clayton Ridge Wednesday, June 11. Mudderman knocked around four singles and a double in six at-bats in the two games, both driving in and scoring three runs each. Additionally, Mudderman secured the pitching win in game two, allowing six hits, one walk and four runs - two of them earned, while striking out two batters. Photo by Danielle Potter. The Kee softball team came up one game shy of an undefeated week on the diamond this past week, having what amounted to a 12-game win streak finally snapped but needing a Class 2A top-five ranked team to bring a halt to that success, and only after a comeback effort on the part of that highly-regarded squad. Prior to its seven games played this past week, Kee’s diamond dwellers swept two games in the Saturday, June 7 competition of the North Fayette Invitational, posting a 15-5 mercy-rule win over Oelwein before upsetting Class 1A eighth-rated Edgewood-Colesburg by a 9-2 final result. Details of those two June 7 games are also included in this week’s coverage.
The Lady Hawks opened this past week with a home doubleheader sweep of Postville Monday, June 9 by equal scores of 10-0 and in four innings for each game. Kee’s girls swept another Upper Iowa Conference home doubleheader from Clayton Ridge Wednesday, June 11 by counts of 9-0 and 12-4, both in five innings, and also defeated Riceville at home by a 7-0 count Thursday, June 12, before splitting two final games of the week at the Riceville Classic, defeating St. Ansgar by a 10-2 result in six innings before having Class 2A fifth-rated and undefeated Osage on the ropes until the final two innings of what turned out to be a 9-5 Kee defeat to have the Lady Hawks’ 12-game win streak brought to an end.
Holding a 12-4 season record that includes an unbeaten, 6-0 result for their Upper Iowa Conference campaign, and now being ranked 10th in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) poll, the Hawks were next scheduled to host MFL/MarMac Monday, June 16, Jesup Tuesday, June 17 and Turkey Valley Wednesday, June 18 before playing in the West Delaware Invitational Friday and Saturday, June 20-21. They will then host Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, June 24 and South Winneshiek Wednesday, June 25 before playing in the two-day Don Bosco Tournament Friday and Saturday, June 27-28.
