The Class 1A 12th-rated Kee softball team played through its busiest week of the season, battling its way through nine games played and putting six of those in the win column. Those six wins all came against fellow Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) squads, both in and out of actual UIC play this past week, as the Lady Hawks opened their week with a home doubleheader sweep of MFL/MarMac Monday, June 16 by scores of 10-2 and 8-0, both in a mercy-rule five innings, before falling to Class 2A 11th-rated Jesup Tuesday, June 17 by an 18-9 count and then sweeping another home doubleheader Wednesday, June 18, this time by scores of 8-3 and 8-0 mercy rule in five innings over Turkey Valley.
Kee’s diamond dwellers then played in the large, 16-team West Delaware Tournament for two days over the weekend, first falling to Class 4A ninth-rated Western Dubuque, 12-3 in four innings, and then to Class 1A ninth-rated Edgewood-Colesburg, 12-4 in five innings, in the first day of tournament action Friday, June 20. The softball Hawks battled back to win both of their Saturday, June 21 games, with both of those wins coming against fellow UIC squads, including a 9-2 win over MFL/MarMac and a 6-1 victory over North Fayette Valley. Details of those West Delaware Tournament games for the Hawks will appear in the July 2 edition of The Standard.
Holding an 18-7 season record that includes a still unblemished, 10-0 result for their Upper Iowa Conference campaign, the Hawks were next scheduled to host Waverly-Shell Rock Tuesday, June 24 and South Winneshiek Wednesday, June 25 before playing in the two-day Don Bosco Tournament Friday and Saturday, June 27-28. They will then wrap up their regular season by playing at West Central Monday, June 30 and then at North Fayette Valley Wednesday, July 2 before beginning postseason tournament play July 7, the details of which have yet to be released.
