Curriculum, facilities and personnel items are focus of pair of EACSD Board of Directors meetings in preparation for upcoming school year

The Eastern Allamakee Community School District (EACSD) Board of Directors met on two occasions during the past month, including a June 26 special meeting and the board’s regular monthly meeting held Monday, July 14. Coverage of both meetings is provided below.

JUNE 26 MEETING
At its Thursday, June 26 special meeting, the EACSD Board approved several personnel and financial matters, including minutes from the previous meeting, held June 9. No public comment was offered during the session.

A multi-year agreement with the Eastern Allamakee Education Association, representing the district’s teaching staff, was approved. In addition, the board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chauffeurs & Teamsters Union, which represents the district’s hourly staff. Non-union employees will receive a 1.70% compensation increase for Fiscal Year 2026.

The board approved the first reading of revised graduation requirements under policy 505.5. A proposed 28E sharing agreement with the City of Lansing for use of the old middle school building as a City Hall location was tabled pending further discussion.

In facility and curriculum decisions, the board approved the purchase of robot mowers for use on the football field grounds. The Eastern Allamakee Community School District Wellness Policy was also approved.

The Heggerty Writing Curriculum was also approved for implementation. The Heggerty curriculum is a structured, research-based program designed to build phonemic awareness skills (the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate the individual sounds [phonemes] within spoken words) in young learners. It focuses on basic literacy skills.

Additionally, the district will adopt Simbli Policy and Meeting Modules to improve administrative operations and board governance. This software from the Iowa School Board Association helps boards maximize productivity with meetings, planning, policies and evaluations.
