EACSD Board of Directors makes final preparations for start of new school year at its regular meeting in August

The Eastern Allamakee Community School District (EACSD) Board of Directors held its regular meeting Monday, August 11 at Kee High School in Lansing. The agenda was approved, and no public comments were received or made during that portion of the meeting.

Board members present included Board President Arla Wagner, Heather Lutz, Joe Manning, Tommy Martin and Melanie Mauss. Others present included Superintendent Jay Mathis, Board Secretary/Financial Director Michele Martin, PK-12 Principal Donna Thomas, Special Education Director/Associate Principal Liz Hill, and School Business Official Kris Smith. In addition, staff members Dave Ellefson and Sarah Whitehead were also in attendance.

The board approved the July meeting minutes, bills, secretary’s financial report, student activity report, and food service report. Under Old Business, the second and final reading of Board Policy 505.05 was approved.

Under New Business, the board approved the following personnel items: John Ronan as assistant varsity football coach, five extended days for New Albin Elementary teacher Jana Troendle, Elizabeth Bahr and Jessica Kurth as mentors, and Lisa Hermeier as a mentor and Professional Learning Community (PLC) Leader.

The board also gave its approval to allowing staff to take leave in hourly (15-minute) increments, in addition to approving the 2025-2026 Student, Certified Staff, and Non-Certified Staff Handbooks. Bank depositories and amounts approved included Kerndt Brothers Savings Bank ($6,250,000), New Albin Savings Bank ($2,000,000), Iowa Schools Joint Investment Trust [ISJIT] ($500,000), and Bankers Trust ($3,500,000).
