The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, September 15 at the Postville Public Library as part of the board’s annual schedule of offsite meeting locations to include public libraries within the county. The Supervisors addressed a short agenda of matters including updates from the City of Postville, the Postville Public Library and the Postville Community School District in addition to the notification of an electronic manure management plan and the discussion and consideration of hiring a 911 dispatcher/corrections officer.

The meeting was called to order by Board of Supervisors Chairperson Dan Byrnes with Supervisor Dennis Keatley present. Supervisor Tom Clark was not present at the meeting due to a scheduled absence.

During Public Comment, Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade Superintendent/7th-12th Grade Principal Brendan Knudtson of the Postville Community School District provided an introduction. Knudtson made note of his 15 years with the school district as principal with responsibilities now including a dual role as principal and superintendent of the school district.

The meeting moved into the City of Postville update with Postville Mayor Dennis Koenig making note of Supervisor Dennis Keatley’s comments made just before the meeting relating to the street and sidewalk improvements in Postville made by the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) in 2024.

Koenig discussed the progress made by Ziegler CAT at its new location north of town in addition to making note of Norplex’s 50th anniversary in business and the recent celebration held in recognition of that milestone which had approximately 400 current and former employees, among others present.

Koenig discussed Norplex’s success and longevity in the plastic and composite materials industry with the Postville facility being the company’s only United States location and the company’s only other location being in China. As part of the City of Postville update, Koenig noted positive trends in the community with building permits continuing to be submitted. Koenig also discussed the anticipated addition of a portion of sidewalk connecting portions of the trail system in town.
