Home ›Waukon football team battles back from early deficit to outscore North Fayette Valley by 36-3 count on way to 50-31 road victory
In a game between two teams that have been headed in somewhat different directions in this season’s first half, including differing results in their Class 2A District 3 openers a week earlier for the 2-2 Waukon football team and 1-3 North Fayette Valley (NFV), it looked early on as if the two teams were reversing those directions in their Friday, September 26 Homecoming match-up for the host TigerHawks. Falling into an initial 14-0 hole and facing a 28-14 deficit just over a minute into the second quarter, the football Indians made the adjustments necessary to stop an early successful run game for their NFV hosts to all but shut down the TigerHawks over the final three quarters of play for a 36-3 outscoring that launched Waukon to a 50-31 victory and continued an undefeated start to the grid Tribe’s District 3 season.
Friday’s win improves the grid Tribe’s season record to 3-2 and keeps the Indians among the three teams still undefeated in Class 2A District 3 play in two such games. Waukon will remain on the road this week, traveling to the home of another of those undefeated squads, both in district play and overall. The Indians will try and be a repeat Homecoming spoiler at Class 2A seventh-rated Osage this Friday, October 3, taking on a Green Devil squad that has not given up more than eight points in a game in remaining undefeated and outscoring its opponents by a 208-28 total margin, including a 61-7 win at New Hampton this past Friday.
