In September, the Iowa Department of Education released the 2024-2025 Iowa School Performance Profiles. This is the second year of the Iowa Department of Education using the Iowa unified accountability system, which examines a set of core indicators that include proficiency in the areas of English language arts (ELA), math and science, academic growth in math and ELA, chronic absenteeism, graduation rates, and postsecondary readiness index in the areas of college credits and work based learning.

Overall, Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) matched or exceeded the state average in most all of the analysis categories, including attendance growth, graduation rates, proficiency in math, science and English language arts, while staying below the state average in the category of chronic absenteeism.

ACSD Superintendent Jay Mathis noted, “Waukon High School had the highest high school rating in the state and we are very proud of this distinction. Waukon Middle School had the fifth highest middle school score in the state. This is a testament to the great staff and students in our district and the quality programming that we offer. We continue to work hard to improve every day and will not rest on these laurels.”

The data was also broken down by each learning center in the district. Waukon High School (WHS) scored 721.59 points out of a possible 900 points, earning an Exceptional designation. The school was above the state average in most areas, except Chronic Absenteeism. WHS had a score of 1.27% for Chronic Absenteeism, compared to the state average of 15.81%. WHS also scored 12.65% in the Attendance Growth Category, compared to the state average of 4.96%.
