The Waukon football team had its 2025 season brought to a close in the second round of the Class 2A State Play-Offs in a Halloween Night match-up at fifth-rated Alburnett Friday, October 31. The trick was trying to stop Class 2A’s leading rusher, Pirate junior Laken Caves, and that certainly ended up being no treat as the Pirate speedster racked up 267 yards and four touchdowns on the ground in leading his squad to a 34-16 win over the Indians for an end to their fall grid campaign.
The loss brings the Indians’ 2025 season to a close with a record of 6-4 overall that includes a 4-1 mark in Class 2A District 3 play to place the grid Tribe second in those final District 3 standings behind undefeated and Class 2A fourth-rated Osage. With its win over the Indians, Alburnett will now take its 8-2 season record to Osage this Friday, November 7 for a State Play-Off quarterfinals battle to determine which team will advance on to the Class 2A semifinals to be played in the UNI-Dome.
