Main Street Story Walk in November and December ...

This November and December bundle up and take a stroll through downtown Waukon while enjoying a heartwarming story. Robey Memorial Library, in collaboration with The Oneota Valley Literary Foundation (OVLS), is hosting the Main Street Story Walk during the months of November and December.

This year’s featured story is the beloved classic The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, a timeless tale of winter wonder and childhood adventures. Families are invited to follow the story as it unfolds in the windows of four local businesses. The Story Walk offers a perfect opportunity for families to enjoy some fresh air, read together, and explore downtown Waukon.

The Story Walk spans four participating businesses (labeled in the above image) along West Main Street, with each stop displaying a portion of The Snowy Day. As readers walk from one location to the next, they’ll be guided by the pages of the story, creating an interactive and enjoyable experience for all ages. The participating businesses include: 1) Hello Sunshine; 2) Rockweiler’s Appliance & TV; 3) Hartig Drug; 4) Silver Laine Co., and they are all located on that same long Main Street block, without any streets to cross between reading stops. Those who have completed the walk can then head over to Robey Memorial Library, where they can show a photo of their family enjoying the Story Walk or provide the secret code word to receive a free book and wrap up the reading adventure.
