by Brianne Grimstad
The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) Board of Directors met for its regular monthly meeting Monday night, November 17. Board member Jesse Delaney was absent.
Under the Consent Agenda, the following personnel were approved, pending a satisfactory background check: John Papp, volunteer boys basketball coach; Tim Bulman, volunteer boys wrestling coach; Jane Johnson, substitute bus driver; Kids Club staff; and Marin Marti, part-time West Elementary paraprofessional. There were four open enrollments out and two open enrollments into the district. The board also approved a Student Teacher Agreement with Northwestern College, as well as Special Education Contracts.
During the time set aside for Communications, the board heard a presentation on the District’s Financial Health Report from Superintendent Jay Mathis. He noted that during the Fiscal Year 2024-2025, ACSD continued to have a strong financial condition. The General Fund Per Pupil Cost for ACSD in the fiscal year ending July 1, 2025, was $14,331, which was close to the State average from 2024 of $14,601 (data for the State average for 2025 was not available in the report).
Certified Enrollment as of October 1, 2025, was 1,090.5, which was down 14.2 students from last year. Mathis pointed out in the report that ACSD had a declining enrollment during COVID for two years, but the district is now back to pre-pandemic levels. The goal is to have stable or increasing numbers, as funding is tied to enrollment. The district will continue to monitor this.
