The Waukon Lions Club donated 146 pounds of can tabs (“pull tabs”) in an effort to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City October 24. Waukon Lions Club member Neal Daley is pictured above with the donation that will provide over $100 to the Ronald McDonald House. The Waukon Lions Club collects can tabs in Waukon at the Waukon Redemption Center and various other locations. The Sweeney family and Village Farm and Home in Waukon also collect can tabs, and their donation goes to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, MN.
Can tabs, also known as pull tabs, can be found on many types of beverage cans and canned food containers. The can tabs are made of aluminum, which is a valuable recyclable resource. Proceeds from the recycled aluminum go to support the Ronald McDonald Houses. One of the emphases of Lions Club International is supporting efforts to fight childhood cancer, and giving to Ronald McDonald Houses is one way the Waukon Lions can support that effort. The Waukon Lions Club would like to express its appreciation to the community for donating the can tabs and encourages everyone to donate their tabs. Submitted photo.
