The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation remind area motorists that the car ferry being utilized for river crossing between Iowa and Wisconsin at Lansing will be adjusting its hours of operation during the Thanksgiving holiday this week. Both Thanksgiving Day, this Thursday, November 27, and the following Friday, November 28, the ferry will operate on a reduced 12-hour schedule, instead of its usual 16-hour daily schedule.
The first ferry for those two days, this Thursday and Friday, will depart the Wisconsin landing site - just south of the new and old bridge locations - at 7 a.m., and the final ferry for those two days will leave Lansing - from the City Marina just south of the Tiki Bar - at approximately 6:45 p.m., with service scheduled to end at 7 p.m. Regular hours of operation will resume Saturday, November 29, including first departure at 5:30 a.m. from the Wisconsin landing site, 5:45 a.m. from the Iowa site, and final departure at 9 p.m. from the Wisconsin site, 9:15 p.m. from the Iowa site. A similar reduced 12-hour schedule is also being planned for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day in the near future.
In an effort to support more efficient travel for daily commuters, the Departments of Transportation and the car ferry operators kindly request that priority access to the car ferry be given to commuter traffic during peak traveling hours, which have typically been 5:30-7:30 a.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. for those working on either side of the river. It is strongly encouraged that non-commuters consider traveling outside these timeframe windows whenever possible.
